Our Vision

Even before the inception of the El Buen Pastor Fund, funds were being provided to the Casa through golf tournaments held at Dakota Creek Golf Course in Custer, WA. These funds where to help provide for food and utilities. Because without this predictable funding the children's situation was very precarious.

The children are dependent on outside donations to meet their most basic needs from food (tortillas and beans) to warm water for bathing. This is the number one priority for fund raising. All costs associated with the children's basic needs continually escalate. In early 2007, tortillas rose approximately 40% in price. Many people have the assumption that necessities are inexpensive in Mexico. The truth is that fruit, vegetables and labor are less expensive with other segments being similarly priced to those in the United States. Unless the Fund can increase what it provides the Casa each year, the children's standard of living goes down. Already it is a challenge to have hot water consistently.

In 2006, we became convinced that the youngest children needed more attentiona and nurturing. From the time they arise in the morning until they go to bed at night, these young children need more assitance, contact and supervision. With this in mind, in 2006 The Fund committed to funding a "Mama", i.e., a person designated to assist and mother these little children. As this program develops it is hoped that this person might incorporate stories, early preschool skills, and educational play for these children. We see this offering as basic to the welfare of the youngest children.
